Same Again

We’ve reached the end of May, and looking back over my shift logs, it’s remarkably consistent. The notes are almost identical to the ones I was writing in April. There are no new clinical guidances from the NHS Trust, no emergency briefings from the department heads, and no whispered warnings in the corridors. If there were a genuine crisis brewing, the bureaucracy would have caught up by now. The fact that everything remains silent suggests that either there’s truly nothing coming, or the scale of whatever this is hasn’t tripped the official alarms yet. I’m leaning toward the former. It’s taking its time, which usually means it isn’t an ‘it’ at all—just the slow, grinding reality of a hospital under pressure.
