Alice makes a fair point about perspective, but from out here in Marple, it really does just look like the town is getting quieter at night. It’s not just one thing; it’s the cumulative effect. Fewer buses are making the late-night run, fewer people are out walking their dogs, and the general hum of the A6 seems to have dropped an octave. It could be the weather, it could be the cost of living, or it could just be that everyone is skint and staying in. But when you live somewhere for twenty years, you feel the vibration of the place. Right now, that vibration is low. I’m still watching, even if it’s just to prove myself wrong.

That quiet creeps up on you.
