Wrong Joke

Someone at the hospital asked me today why I still call this blog ‘Undeadwatch.’ They weren’t being snide; they were genuinely curious. I realized I didn’t laugh. A few months ago, the name was a joke, a way to blow off steam during a weird shift. Now, the humor has completely evaporated. I didn’t have a witty answer for them because the ‘Undead’ part doesn’t feel like a metaphor anymore. It feels like a clinical observation. When you see someone who doesn’t breathe, doesn’t blink, but still moves with purpose, what else do you call them? The name has transitioned from a punchline to a title. I think we’re all past the point of finding this funny. We’re just watching, and waiting for the watch to end.
