Footnotes

Ernie here. When you look at old archives, they are full of footnotes written by people who realized far too late that they were living through the main text of a historical tragedy. They thought they were just documenting a local curiosity or a brief disturbance. They didn’t realize that their ‘minor observation’ would be the only thing left to tell the story of a collapse. I don’t want this blog to be a footnote. I want it to be a clear, loud account of what happened here. I’m writing with the awareness that these words might be the only evidence that we were here, that we were afraid, and that we tried to understand.
