Access at the hospital is tightening. Certain doors that I’ve walked through every day for years now require an approval level that my badge no longer possesses. There was no announcement about the change, and no incident report to explain it. You just swipe your card, the light turns red, and you realize your world has just gotten a little bit smaller. It’s a silent, incremental lockdown. You don’t lose your freedom all at once; you lose it door by door, hallway by hallway, until you’re exactly where they want you to be. I wonder which door will be the last one to lock.
