Just to be clear—since I’ve apparently been nominated as the ‘designated skeptic’ of this comment section—I’m not saying that nothing weird ever happens in this town. Stockport has its fair share of oddities. What I’m saying is that jumping straight to ‘undead’ is lazy. It’s a movie trope used to explain away the fact that human beings have been acting strange, erratic, and downright creepy since the dawn of time. The only difference now is that we’ve all got 4K cameras in our pockets to document every mid-afternoon breakdown. We see a video of someone shuffling down the A6 looking a bit worse for wear and we want it to be a global event because that’s more exciting than the reality: that life is hard and people sometimes snap. If something actually worth panicking over shows up—something that isn’t just a ‘vibe’ or a blurry photo—you’ll hear it from me first. I’ll be the one running. Until then, I’m sticking with the theory that everyone just needs to log off and take a walk.
